Get a Leg Up On the Competition~ Duane Reade Brand Legwear goes from Day to Night

Duane reade went from drugstore chain, to beauty megastore when it launched its Look boutique, which carries a muiltitude of makeup, hair and skincare brands. Now, once again in its quest for world domination, they’ve taken on a new challenge, adding legwear; including tights and leggings in their repetoire. The legwear industry has grown leaps and bounds just in the last year alone with novelty tights being a huge trend. Fishnets, tartan prints and fabrics are just a few of the styles at the forefront of this growoing industry that shows no sign of slowing down.

Duane Reade has now joined the mix as well with their own line of legwear. The eponymously named line; a DR brand, offers 3 types. The fashion tights that come in fishnet, polka dots, and an almost knitted print are perfect for a night out on the town. Complemented by a chic dress or skirt and heels, and averaging between 10 and 12 these are an easy decision.  The standard tight line offers black tights, pretty much perfect for any time. Lastly are the leggings, plain black, but also featuring a studded version.

Now, leggings are in an off again on again relationship with the fashion industry. Like a fickle Nyc yankee fans, sometimes we love u, sometimes we hate you, it all depends on how you perform.  And if that’s the case I give the DR leggings an A. Not only is the fit like butter, a hard find, they’re so dark they don’t show through like other leggings, but don’t feel bulky either. I paired mine with a Tory burch sweater and leopard booties for an easy going Monday.

I have had a love/hate relationship with tights all my life. I once splurged on a special pair of high end, expensive pantyhose, only to have them rip while putting on only a few weeks later. In fact, spending $50, or $10, I can’t think of a pair of tights I’ve owned for more then a month before they are tainted with even the faintest of holes.

There is something about that magical dance women do. It’s an art form; the dance we do with ourselves, and everyone has their own technique. Some, gliding the tight in at the top, in one fell, slinky, Grace Kelly swoop. Others, the less graceful, more Carrie Bradshaws of the group, like myself go in there like a champ, toe first. This is a steadfast manuver that takes a switft, smooth move. The smallest mistake can cost you the whole thing. The important thing is to always have backup.

I know that I’m going to have a long relationship with my new Duane Reade polka dot sheer tights. I wore them out last weekend, and so far, so good. I paired them with my favorite Miu Miu heels, and like those, I’m pretty sure these will be a new staple item.

For Day, Night, Work, and Play DR Legwear has a style that fits the mood. Looks like Duane Reade kicked it out of the park…. stylishly.
