Red, Red, MINE… February is National American Heart Month

Lucille Ball said it best, that once in his life, every man should fall in love with a red head. Another said they are too numerous to be ignored, too rare to be accepted. And let’s face it, us natural red heads definitley don’t have it easy. We’re the butt of phrases such as ginger and red headed stepchild, we make up only 2 % of the population and Patti Stanger, the Millionaire Matchmaker hates us.

And yet, as rare and troublesome as we’re depicted, women go to the ends of the earth to try and replicate our hair color, and we have an entire month and fashion show dedicated to us. This month, the annual Red Dress Collection Fashion Show will kick off 2011 Fashion Week with a bang. And Have you ever heard of Blonde month, or the brunette dress collection? I think not.

Although I denied my birthright for years, consistently going back to the bottle, I finally have come to terms with what earth gave me, and have been back on the red wagon for a few years now and am happy being a rare breed. In honor of all those who embrace their own red hearts, and February itself, which is American Heart Month, find your own way to celebrate the red in your life.
